"A work of art into the military"

A dry military building turns into a sensitive art gallery.

It may sound somewhat odd at first, but there is a unit that tries to heal soldiers by utilizing its military building as an art gallery.

The 2nd Corps entered into a MOU with the Chuncheon branch of the Korean Fine Arts Association to operate the art gallery in the military building and held an opening ceremony for the exhibition on August 13.

The exhibition of the Second Corps has been evaluated as an exemplary case in which the military building was turned into an exhibition hall by hanging pieces of art on the walls of all the living space such as in the hallway, the entrance of the dining room, offices, and so on. For soldiers who rarely visit art galleries due to their busy schedules, it is the result of an inverse concept in which artists visit the unit and display their works. The unit is expecting to relax the soldiers’ minds and stabilize their emotions by placing the famous artists’ works on display within the dry military space.

Distinctive artworks such as “Riverside” by the manager of the Chuncheon branch Cho Byeong-guk, “One’s home town” by Ham Seob, and “face” by Kim Yun-seon were unveiled at this exhibition. The 11 artists who gladly loaned their works for soldiers are very productive, sending theirs to an international exhibition. These representative artists of Gangwon-do presented a variety of artwork such as painting, artifacts and pottery.
