Minister of National Defense Suh presents the Order of National Security Merit Tong-il medal to US Indo-Pacific Commander Davidson

In the morning of April 13, Minister of National Defense Suh Wook awarded the Order of National Security Merit Tong-il medal to Commander of the United States (US) Indo-Pacific Command Philip S. Davidson on behalf of the government of the Republic of Korea (ROK).


The decoration ceremony was attended by key military officials from the ROK and the US, including Chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) Won In-choul, Commander of the ROK-US Combined Forces Command (CFC) Robert Abrams, and Deputy Commander of the CFC Kim Seung-kyum.


“Davidson has continued to support the ROK-US alliance with his deep trust in it since his inauguration as the commander of the Indo-Pacific Command in May 2018. Significantly, he has contributed greatly to military backup for the diplomatic efforts for the complete denuclearization of and a permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula by stably managing tensions in the region,” a ministry spokesperson said.


Davidson also plans to hold talks with key figures such as Minister Suh and Chairperson Won during his visit.


Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has designated Commander of Pacific Fleet Command John C. Aquilino as new commander of the Indo-Pacific Command.
