‘Seoul Defense Dialogue 2020' held online

For 3 days starting today(September 1st), to be broadcast live on Youtube
Confirmed desire to work together to overcome COVID-19
Expected to support peace on the Korean peninsula and build a consensus in this area

To discuss the security issues currently faced by the international community, including the COVID-19 pandemic, all senior officials from the Defense and National security are gathering for an online meeting. The Ministry of National Defence says that they will hold the 'Seoul Defense Dialogue 2020' video seminar on September 1-3 for dialogue and communication in the area of multilateral security cooperation.

This is the 9th Seoul Defense Dialogue, a vice-minister level multilateral security consultative group started by the Ministry of Defense to promote peace on the Korean peninsula and security cooperation around the Asia-Pacific region. Since it was established in 2012, SDD has become a representative international meeting in the realm of defence, thanks to the support of the international community.

As it is still difficult to hold gatherings in Seoul due to COVID-19, the Ministry of National Defence decided to have a non-face-to-face SDD, consisting of special video seminars. "The speakers from Korea will attend the seminar on-site, strictly observing social distancing requirements, while others from overseas will speak via videoconference. Issues to be discussed will be streamed live on Youtube" said the MND.

"Even though we are unable to host defence officials from other countries as we usually do, this SDD will serve as momentum to confirm the desire of the international community to band and work together to overcome COVID-19, as well as to form an unfailing consensus regarding the need for peace on the Korean peninsula," a Defence Ministry official commented.
