The Ministry of National Defense convened the 2025 National Defense Intelligent Informatization Conference under the theme “Defense Digital Innovation: Preparing for Future Warfare in the Era of AI Transformation (AX).” Officials from the military, industry, academia, and research institutes are applauding.

Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back underscored the critical role of intelligent informatization in national defense, stating, “With a determination that weapons of the past cannot win a future war, we will boldly apply advanced science and technology, such as AI, across all defense areas.”

In his opening remarks, delivered by Lee Yeong-bin, head of the Defense Ministry’s Office of Planning and Coordination, at the 2025 National Defense Intelligent Informatization Conference held on September 3 at Dragon City Hotel in Yongsan-gu, Minister Ahn Gyu-back stated, “AI develops optimal strategy by calculating numerous cases and supports command decisions. It is a tool of literally ‘brilliant strategy and miraculous calculation.’ Now, the fate of a war is determined by data and algorithm—a new spear and shield—not a few hundred thousand troops.”

Minister Ahn noted that the Defense Ministry is actively exploring a range of options to integrate advanced intelligent informatization technologies into military operations, aligning with this trend. Minister Ahn stated, “To strengthen AI defense technology capability, the Defense Ministry will expand the overall R&D budget and disseminate AI-based intelligence services through a high-speed, high-connectivity defense network across all sectors.” He emphasized the Ministry’s vision of building a robust military powered by both people and technology, highlighting plans to cultivate professional talent through specialized military training.

The conference, held under the theme “Era of AX (AI + Transformation): Defense Digital Innovation to Prepare for Future Warfare Environment,” brought together approximately 800 participants from the military, industry, academia, and research institutes.

Minister Ahn expressed his expectations regarding the conference’s impact, stating, “Various discussions produced by the conference will be a valuable foundation for substantial progress towards defense intelligent informatization and innovation.”
