On November 6, the Ministry of National Defense reported that Jeong Seok-hwan, chief of the ministry’s Office of National Defense Policy, met with David Stiwell, U.S. assistant secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, who was touring countries in East Asia.

Jeong and Stiwell discussed the security situation on the Korean Peninsula, policy cooperation for the two sides and the way forward for the development of the alliance between Republic of Korea and the US.

“Both sides shared the assessment that these talks would further strengthen the interaction between Republic of Korea and the U.S. diplomacy and security authorities, and contribute to their respective diplomatic efforts for the denuclearization of and the establishment of a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula. They also agreed to continue their close cooperation,” an official from the ministry said.
